In the 'Vukovar Siege', around 1,500 Croatian soldiers died defending the city of Vukovar, while around 1,000 civilians were killed, and the youngest victim of Vukovar was 6-month-old Ivan Kljajić, who was killed by shell fragments while being held by his father Pavle, who then died from the same fragments.
Over 15,000 killed and missing soldiers and civilians, of Croatian, Serbian and Bosniak nationality, paid for the war for the independence and freedom of Croatia with their lives.
Today, when we live again in a time of instability and world conflicts, we can see the devastating consequences that war has on human lives.
