The Easter Season is preceded by Holy Week, in which the Church commemorates the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord.
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord, when we recall Christ’s solemn messianic entry into Jerusalem. On Palm Sunday, palm branches will be available in our church, and offerings will be directed toward the needs of the Holy Land, which is presently affected by war.
During Holy Week, the Sacred Paschal Triduum begins: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.
On Holy Thursday, we commemorate the Last Supper, when the Lord Jesus instituted the priesthood and the Eucharist. The Mass of the Lord’s Supper in our parish will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m., including the Washing of the Feet.
On Good Friday, we commemorate the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On this day, the Holy Mass is not celebrated anywhere in the Church. Instead, the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion is observed. In our parish, the liturgy will begin at 7:00 p.m., including the Liturgy of the Word and the Veneration of the Cross.
On Holy Saturday, Holy Mass is not celebrated. It is a day of profound silence, reflecting the stillness of the tomb as the Church awaits the Resurrection.
The celebration of Easter begins with the Easter Vigil, which is celebrated during the night from Holy Saturday into Easter Sunday. In our parish, the Easter Vigil will be celebrated at 8:00 p.m., followed by the blessing of Easter food.
On Easter Sunday, the Solemn Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., according to the Sunday schedule. During Mass, the congregation will be sprinkled with Easter water, and the blessing of Easter food will take place at the conclusion of the liturgy.
On Easter Monday, the Church continues the celebration of the Resurrection, recalling the Lord’s appearance to the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Easter Monday is also observed as a day of obligation. Holy Mass in our parish will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.
